Crimecall

Crimecall

Crimecall is an Irish television programme broadcast once a month on RTÉ. It is based loosely on the format of the German television programme Aktenzeichen XY … ungelöst, and more closely on its British derivative Crimewatch, whose format it is almost identical to.

Format

The show reconstructs recent unsolved crimes in Ireland in an attempt to jog the memories of viewers who may be able to help. The general public are encouraged to phone in if they have any information that may help An Garda Síochána to solve the crimes featured. The show is presented by Gráinne Seoige and Philip Boucher Hayes. Crimecall is independently produced in Dublin by Coco Television. Its highest ever ratings of 42% of audience share was in June 2007 for a programme which featured an interview with Kate and Gerry McCann, parents of missing British child Madeleine McCann.

The show is the second RTÉ adaption of Aktenzeichen XY … ungelöst, the previous adaption being Crimeline which ran from 1992-2004. This version was even more closely modelled on Crimewatch UK and was presented by David Harvey and Anne Doyle and produced by Harvey's production company. Prior to Crimeline, RTÉ had produced its own format, Garda Patrol, a short weekly programme usually presented by a serving member of An Garda Siochana who appealed for help with solving crimes. It ran from 1967-1992.
