Ashwath Sundaresan (born on February 12 1986 in Chennai, India), is a one time New Zealand based actor most notable for the role of "Dal" in the television drama series The Tribe.

Background

He is from a small family of four. He lived in Saudi Arabia for two years when his father, Sundaresan Venkataraman, an IT architect was working there. After his two years in Saudi his family migrated to Wellington, New Zealand. In 1990 his sister Mythrayee Sundaresan was born and he became an elder brother. In 1995 the family moved to Auckland, for two years, where he started his intermediate school education. During this time his mother Sundari Sundaresan was earning a degree in computer science. After two years the family moved back to Wellington, where they lived until they moved to London, England for a further two years. Upon his return to Wellington he attended Karori Normal School, for half a year.

Early career

Spending four years studying classical Indian music, including learning the Bharat Natyam, Sundarasen also participated in drama at school. When he was 13 he partipated in the production of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat" as a member of the children's chorus, this was where he was spotted. He was offered the oportunity of being in cloud9's tv series, "The Tribe". His character was Dal, an indian boy, who used to be son of a doctor, but now an orphan, like the rest of the children/adolecsants of the world. After 3 seasons he decided to focus more on studies, and left the show, his character was killed off by falling off a building. Up to this time he had been learning (on and off) Indian Classical dancing. He then attended Wellington Boys College until he graduated. Upon finishing secondary school he went to Canterbury University where he earned an honours degree in mechanical engineering. Ashwath is currently in the middle of a PhD.
