The Warm Mineral Springs (also known as Warm Salt Springs) is a historic artesian spring located in North Port, Florida, a mile north of U.S. 41. On November 28, 1977, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. Regarded by many as the "Fountain of Youth" sought by Ponce de Leon and once thought to be legendary, this natural spring has been found to provide remarkable restorative health benefits.
Geology
Discharging more than 9 million gallons each day, the spring is the second largest of the warm water kind in the western hemisphere.
History
The spring has been in use for thousands of years. This was shown when 10,000 year old human remains were discovered near the bottom, including a skull with intact brain matter, and the skeletal remains of a Mastodon and Saber tooth tiger.
