TAFE Tasmania is an Australian tertiary body that is the Tasmanian division of the Australian state-based Technical and Further Education system. It includes two institutes, the Institute of TAFE Tasmania and the Drysdale Institute.

The Institute of TAFE Tasmania (including the Drysdale Institute) was established as a legal authority under the TAFE Tasmania Act 1997, and began operating as a State-wide training organisation on 1 January 1998. The previous TAFE administration was regionally-based - this shift aimed to enrich relationships with industry and the community, and to facilitate a more effective use of resources. Institutes

TAFE Institute

TAFE Tasmania plays a part in the development of lifelong learning for Tasmanians. As part of the national TAFE network it is the largest registered training organisation in the State, and delivers vocational education and training at an international standard.

Products and services are delivered through 18 programs operating from over 20 training sites. Flexible delivery is an integral feature of TAFE Tasmania, with training delivered in the home, at the workplace, at Online Access Centres via computer, or at TAFE campuses. Within this changing environment, the integration of learning and work plays a major part. The enhanced focus on generic skills and learning at work has increasingly influenced the type and range of partnerships the Institute has developed with local enterprise and community clients. Drysdale also has a close relationship with the hospitality and tourism industries, and is able to offer an exciting range of career opportunities to anyone interested. [ [http://www.tafe.tas.edu.au/drysdale/index.htm Drysdale Information] ]

tatistics

In 2006, more than 29,000 people passed through the doors of a TAFE campus somewhere around Tasmania, accessing one of the 450 accredited training courses they offer. More than half of the students are in the 20-39 age group, with the majority of them enrolled on a part-time basis.

There has been an increased amount of training delivered over the last few years. In 2001, TAFE delivered over 4.5 million hours of government funded training activity, increasing to 4.64 million hours in 2002, and 4.9 million hours of government funded training activity in 2003.

TAFE Tasmania has recorded the highest number of enrollments undertaken as part of a Training Package and the highest number of annual hours of training delivered as part of a Training Package across the country – in fact TAFE Tasmania exceeds the Australian average.
