(2001)"February Son" is the
major label debut album frompost-grunge band Oleander. It was released onUniversal Records in 1999 and eventually went gold. The album includes Oleander's breakout single "
Why I'm Here " as well as a cover ofThe Cure 's "Boys Don't Cry." Also, most of the songs in the album had been previously released on the band's first independent releases. "February Son" also includes newdrummer Scott Devours. Devours was hired to replace the band's original drummer, Fred Nelson Jr.Reception
"February Son" received some criticism for supposedly imitating the influential grunge flagship Nirvana. This is particularly noted in "Why I'm Here," which begins with the exact same three guitar notes as "
Heart-Shaped Box " and carries on a similar structure throughout.
