Awaz (Urdu: آواز, translation: "voice") was a Pakistani musical group during the 1990s. It had three members: Haroon was the lead singer, Faakhir Mehmood was the keyboardist, and Assad Ahmed was the guitarist. Awaz shot to success in 1995 with the hit single Jadoo Ka Chiragh [cite web |url=http://www.pakipop.com/reflection/evolution.html|title=Reflection: An Evolution in Motion |accessdate=2007-10-05 |format= |work=PAKIPOP.com ] .

History

The band was formed in December 1992, however in 2000 they group split due to conflicts and went their separate ways. All of three members started their own careers.

Haroon and Faakhir started their solo career's while Assad Ahmed (Guitarist) made his own rock band "Karavan" with his friend Sameer Ahmad. Awaz was one of the famous Pop/Rock bands in Pakistan in early 90's. They were one of the pioneers of pop music in Pakistan. They inspired a generation of young pop singers. Awaz had a huge fan following, and they had many hit songs to their credit.

Awaz were highly skilled and talented musicians, producers and composers. The band's skill at composing and producing was often overlooked and the focus was on their good looks, glossy videos, catch songs and wild stage performances.

Awaz was the first band from Pakistan to appear on MTV on April 20th 1992 with the song Janeman. Awaz released three albums. The first album was the self titled album "Awaz", more commonly known as "Awaz 1". The second album was "Jadu Ka Chiraagh" and the third and last album was "Shola". Their biggest hit was the song Mr. Fraudiay, a tongue in cheek satire on corruption in Pakistan. The video, 11 years later, still plays regularly on Music TV Channels.

Haroon and Faakhir have successful solo careers while Assad Ahmed's band Karavan is also famous in Pakistan, but they are accused of not giving time to their band. Karavan's last album was released in 2002, while Faakhir and Haroon have recently released two new hit albums in the market.
