William Boyde

William Boyde is a British actor, best known for his work on British television. He has appeared in "Just William" (1977); the BBC drama "Secret Army" (1978); "Bergerac" (1981) and the detective series "Dempsey & Makepeace" (1985). Theatre work includes; Dr Watson in "A Study in Scarlet", Jack Favell in "Rebecca" and Charles Condomine in "Blithe Spirit".

Boyde is most famous for playing the role of James Willmott-Brown, the owner of The Dagmar winebar, in the BBC soap opera "EastEnders" (1986-1989; 1992). His character became one of the soaps most renowned villains after raping barmaid Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) in 1988.

Since his last appearance in "EastEnders" Boyde's television credits have been few. One of his most recent roles was playing Tim the pub landlord in the Johnny Vaughan sitcom "'Orrible" in 2001. The show was panned by viewers and critics, and failed to get commissioned for a second series. Boyde believes that his controversial role in "EastEnders" caused him to be typecast and damaged his acting career. [http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4161/is_20010506/ai_n14527933] He now mainly does voice-overs for radio and television advertisements.
