Radio Service Software (RSS) is a
software package used to program commercialMotorola two-way radios and cellular telephones. An update of RSS is CPS, a Windows-based version of the package used for some of Motorola's newer radio models.Licensing
RSS (the Carrier and Super Agent forms) is available to authorized professionals from Motorola. The license does not permit resale of the software.
Unauthorized possession and use of RSS can lead to criminal charges and prosecution, as well as legal action by Motorola. On
July 17 ,2000 Motorola filed alawsuit against five individuals accused of selling copies of RSS throughE-Bay . Despite Motorola's well publicized stance regarding RSS software, current users have been left to question if this is still in effect. A search of the Motorola site notes that RSS manuals and information are no longer available. No FAQs exist for more information. Some users have started exploring the use of hexidecimal editors to modify the radios themselves without the RSS software.
