Web search engine to providefull text search . It went live onApril 20 ,1994 and was created by Brian Pinkerton at theUniversity of Washington . It was bought byAmerica Online onJune 1 ,1995 and sold toExcite onApril 1 ,1997 . WebCrawler was acquired byInfoSpace in 2001 afterExcite , then calledExcite@Home , went bankrupt. InfoSpace also owns and operates the metasearch enginesDogpile ,MetaCrawler andExcite .WebCrawler was originally a separate search engine with its own database, and displayed advertising results in separate areas of the page. More recently it has been repositioned as a metasearch engine, providing a composite of separately identified sponsored and non-sponsored search results from most of the popular search engines.
=WebCrawler also changed its image in early 2008 from the classic look as shown above to a more modern simple look, with no real page design, also, scrapping their classic spider
