Higueruela

Higueruela is a municipality located at 43km east of Albacete, Castile-La Mancha, Spain. It has a population of 1,350. The land surface is around 205.4 km² and its population density is calculated at 6.5/km². [ [http://www.higueruela.net/ higueruela.net] ]

The village is known for being the field of the battle of Higueruela which was fought in 1431 between the Kingdom of Castille and the Muslim Nasrid dynasty.

The Higueruela Park features 244 Wind turbines [ [http://www.agrocastilla.com/?option=ver_noticia&id=82 "La Higueruela, La mayor instalación eólica del mundo ubicada"] - es icon] and it was the biggest wind farm in the world for some time [ [http://www.sabuco.com/mci/essays01/2b/energy2.pdf "Renewable energy"] - p.11] . The Park was built in 1999, and it has an installed capacity of 161.04MW.
