Animecon is the largest anime convention in Finland, held annually over a weekend in varying Finnish cities. It has no participation or membership fees.

Animecon is organized as a joint project between anime clubs throughout Finland, facilitated by the communications hub Suomen Animeunioni "(The Finnish Anime Union)".cite journal |last=Eturautti |first=Kyuu |year=2005 |title=Kotimaan katsaus "(A domestic look)" |journal=Anime magazine |issue=01 |pages=pp. 42 ] The convention was first established in 1999 as an outgrowth of the science fiction anime fandom of the sci-fi convention Finncon, cite journal |last=Joukamaa |first=Mauno |year=2006 |title=Animecon: Kuinka kaikki alkoi "(Animecon: How it all began)" |journal=Anime magazine |issue=13 |pages=pp. 08 ] expanded into a separate event about anime in general. Animecon and Finncon are still held in conjunction, sharing premises but no events; they even hold separate opening ceremonies.

The two drew some 5200 visitors in 2004cite news |url=http://www.turunsanomat.fi/kulttuuri/?ts=1,3:1005:0:0,4:5:0:1:2004-07-14,104:5:237431,1:0:0:0:0:0: |title=Jyväskylän Kesä veti väkeä |date=2004-07-14 |accessdate=2007-09-03 |work=Turun Sanomat |language=Finnish] and 5500 in 2006fact|date=August 2008, peaking at 5000 on Saturday during the three-day event.cite journal |last=Eturautti |first=Kyuu |year=2006 |title=Tervetuloa coniin!
