- 7th Vermont Infantry
The 7th Regiment, Vermont Volunteer Infantry (or 7th VVI) was a three years' infantry regiment in the
Union Army during theAmerican Civil War . It served in the Western Theater, predominantly inLouisiana andFlorida , from February 1862 to March 1866. It was the longest serving Vermont regiment during the war.The regiment was mustered into Federal service on
February 12 ,1862 , at Rutland, Vermont. It was engaged in, or present at, theSiege of Vicksburg , Baton Rouge, Gonzales Station, the Mobile campaign and Spanish Fort, and Whistler, Alabama.The 7th Vermont lost during its term of service 11 men killed and mortally wounded, 15 died from accident, 6 died in Confederate prisons and 379 died from disease, for a total loss of 411 men.
The regiment mustered out of service on
March 14 ,1866 .
