September 21 ,1970 inNorth Carolina , but he graduated fromMonsignor Donovan High School inToms River, New Jersey . He played the part of The Phantom on the Third National Tour of "The Phantom of the Opera" until he left onNovember 27 ,2007 . His first role on Broadway was as Feuilly in "Les Miserables". He went on to play many of the lead male roles in "Les Miserables", including Jean Valjean. His first encounter with Phantom was when he was cast as a temporary swing in the touring production. There he met Kathy Voytko, who is now his wife. Nine months later, he gained the role of Raoul in the touring cast. He played Raoul on Broadway also, where he was an understudy for the Phantom. Finally he was cast as the Phantom in the touring production. John Cudia is currently playing the role of the Phantom at Broadway's Majestic Theatre as a 10 week substitute for long-running Phantom, Howard McGillin. Cudia's first performance since rejoining the Broadway company was on May 22 and he will continue in the role of the Phantom until Howard McGillin returns on July 28. He is the first man to appear on Broadway as both Jean Valjean and the Phantom.
