Vidyaranyapura

Vidyaranyapura

Vidyaranyapura formerly known as Narsipura is situated in the Northern Part of Bangalore City. It is the southern tip of the place 'Yelahanka' where folklore says that Kempe Gowda, the founder of Bangalore, was supposedly born. The name of the township is after the great Kannada poet Vidyaranya.

It has been divided into 7 blocks as well as small colonies [BEL & HMT, NTI Layout, Industrial Employees Layout etc.] respectively. It is located very close to the big Government sectors like BEL [Bharat Electronics Limited] and HMT [Hindustan Machine Tools] . A large number of residents working in these organistations were granted sites at concessional rates. Commercially, the land-rates of Vidyaranyapura have always been low considering of the fact of its distance from the main city. Though now, a various number of shopping arcades, eateries and stores have been opened due to the eventual rise in population. It is also provided with ample transportation with the Local Bus Service BMTC, "bus number 276". It is one of the greenest parts of Bangalore with all kinds of linguistic people. The primary language being Kannada, though Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu dominate equally.

Vidyaranyapura is a beautiful township located to the west of University of Agricultural Sciences, GKVK. It is rich in Flora with a variety of trees and plants which were planted by the Forest Department during its conversion into a locality. The native tree is predominantly the Eucalyptus which extends to kilometres in this region. The soil is very rich in nutrients and has a distinct Red colour to it. The area is also in a higher elevation [about 10 meters] comparatively to the rest of the City.Vidyarnayapura Main Road: The main road has and leads to many like places playground, shopping malls, well known temple,Bus depot, post office, police station etc in vidyaranyapura. There are more than 500 shops in this road, making it a commercial centre. Vidyaranyapura is a colony which was formed around the late 1970s. It was formerly known to be owned by a rich Landlord and he still owns a large mango garden ( Dinshaw Estate). Earlier legends state that it could have been a Battle-field at some point of time. This might have been possible as it is next to a place called Dandina Kodigehalli, which, 'Dandina' in Kannada means a Cantonment or Military Camp.
