History

The Hills Grammar School was founded in 1982 as an independent non-selective, co-educational and non-denominational Kindergarten to Year 12 school. In 1982, the Founding Council was formed.

In 1983, with 163 Foundation students enrolled from Kindergarten to Year 9 and with 14 academic staff, the school opened its doors. The first Principal (appointed from Geelong College) was Mr Michael van Heeswyk. The school has since grown with approximately 1,200 students.

Campus

The school is located amongst natural bushland on the side of a gully and offers a bushland learning environment. Throughout its short history the original architectural theme has been maintained ensuring that buildings and the School's natural bushland setting blend.

House system

In 2007, an overhaul of the school was undertaken, with much emphasis placed on the House system (where students from each grade are placed into one of four Houses).

There are four Houses; each with their own motto and colour:
*McGrath – Green – "To Toil and Triumph"
*Pennant – Red – "To Rise Above and Beyond"
*Rogan – Yellow – "To Ignite the Spirit Within"
*Castle – Blue – "To Dream is to Succeed"

Notable alumni

*Rachael Carpani – Actress
*Joel Edgerton – Actor
*Delta Goodrem – Musician
*Andrew Hansen – Comedian
*Robert Ovadia – Journalist
