callsign for 1080 WHOO - Orlando's ESPN, an AMsports radio station inOrlando, Florida ,United States . It broadcasts at a medium-wave frequency of 1080 kHz. It is owned by Genesis Communications. It broadcasts from a 27 kW transmitter inWinter Park, Florida and a 19 kW transmitter in Kissimmee, but both are drastically reduced in power in the evening (to 2 kW and 190W, respectively).WHOO is the Orlando area affiliate for
ESPN Radio . Currently it picks up all four hours of "Mike and Mike in the Morning " and the first two hours of "The Herd with Colin Cowherd " (10am-12pm), as well as overnight programming. The only week-long local talk show is hosted by Brady Ackerman and Jerry O'Neill from 3pm until 6pm weekdays. Before mid-2007, it was 4pm-7pm and featuredTerry Bowden . They are also the local affiliate for theTampa Bay Rays , theJacksonville Jaguars , as well asNASCAR Sprint Cup Series races.The WHOO calls were used on AM 990 in Orlando, which is now
WDYZ , from 1947 to 1987 and then again from 1988 to 2001.AM 1080 began operations in
1965 as 10,000-watt daytimer WKGF, with a Christian religious format, then became country WFIV ("The Big Five") in1966 . The country format continued until1995 , when WFIV switched to a Spanish popular music format as "Radio Selecta." WFIV then went to a Christian talk format as "Genesis 1080" in2000 . The following year, the WHOO calls moved to 1080 from 990, along with AM 990'sadult standards music format, followed by a change to the current sports format in 2002.In
2008 , after rival sports stationWQTM changed formats, WHOO began calling itself "The Only Game in Town". It picked up the first two hours (Noon-2pm) of "The Jim Rome Show " onJanuary 8 , and took the third hour of the show beginning onApril 25 , the day of the Jim RomeSmack-Off . Prior to picking up Jim Rome, the station carried all three hours of Colin Cowherd and "Tirico and Van Pelt ".On
January 21 , Jerry O'Neill, formerly a stalwart onWQTM , joinedWHOO . He abruptly quit Clear Channel Orlando a week after moving from WQTM to 540 WFLA.On
