- Lââm
Lââm (
Paris ,September 1 1971 ) is a French female singer ofTunisia n descent. She has sold more than 500 000 albums and more than 2 million singles.Biography
Lââm, {whose real name is "Lamia") lived a difficult childhood due to family problems at home. At a very young age, she developed a passion for music.
Within a day, a producer commented on her singing and loved the way she interpretated songs. Lââm's career finally began. She released her first single "
Chanter pour ceux qui sont loin de chez eux ", a reprise ofMichel Berger 's legendary song. The French public immediately loved the new version of the song and formatnum:960000 copies of the song was sold on (gold discs). The song ranked as second onTop 50 for 9 weeks straight. As a result of succeeding, Lââm released her first album "Persévérance" which had reprises of Michel Berger's songs, but also singles like "Jamais loin de toi", "Assez", "Les enfants de l'an 2000" or the encore "Face à Face". Some of these singles were modified so they quickly became hit singles. The albums on platinum discs were rare and more than formatnum:250000 copies were sold.In 2001, she released her second album "Une vie ne suffit pas" and quickly released it on gold discs and more than formatnum:100000 copies were sold. Two hit singles of the album are "Que l'amour nous garde" and "De ton indifférence". Lââm then had a huge concert/tour at
Paris Olympia in 2002.At the same time, Lââm acts in a musical comedy called Cindy. Many times it was said that this musical comedy was a failing production despite that a gold disc for the album was created (more thanformatnum:100000 copies were sold), and was placed fifth on Top 50 for the official single interpretated by Lââm and Frank Sherbourne. In 2004, she released an album more broad than the ones before; in its production, it had varieties of rock,
R'n'B andrap music, including several duets with (Jean-Jacques Goldman ,Lisa Stansfield ,Princess Aniès …). The album came out with two singles written and composed by Jean-Jacques Goldman : "Tu es d'un chemin" and "On pardonne". These two songs were aired on the radio but for some reason they stopped airing them. The promotion wasn't as good and no more than formatnum:25000 copies were sold. Then, Lââm started another French tour which passed by Pairs au Zèbre de Belleville in France. In August 2005, she released a single, "Petite Sœur". That song had an R'n'B rhythm to it which made the song rank fifth on the charts and more than formatnum:250000 copies were sold. This song got Lââm more popular; she was invited to a huge number of shows to sing that song. In September of that same year, her album was republished under the name "Pour être libre"; it included three new songs : "Petite Sœur", "Pour être libre" and "Elle est toujours là". After less than a year, the album was ranked high in France and was certified on gold discs. More than formatnum:75000 copies were sold.
In 2006, she was nominated at the
NRJ Music Awards many times as the French-speaking artist of the year and at theVictoires de la musique as female artist of the year againstKeren Ann ,Zazie andJuliette . She didn't win any awards, but the nomination showed that she isn't forgotten and that her songs are good. She later organized a huge tour in the summer which passed by a number of cities in France (likePerpignan andAmiens ) andBelgium .Lââm released a new album at the end of the year 2006. The CD came out before the single "Le sang chaud" was out, which was in a duet with the singer Princesse Aniès, had more than formatnum:50000 copies sold, and ranked seventh on Top 50. Despite that she succeeded in the single, the album "Le Sang chaud" came in at the end of the top and not more than formatnum:15000 copies were sold. This really disappointed Lââm.
However, Lââm was chosen "Voice of the Year" by the public of FilleTV channel. It's the first award Lââm received in her career.
In March 2007, she released a single, "Rien ne dure", which aired on radio. The CD isn't out yet in stores.
In May 2007, Lââm released another single, "Relève-toi". The song is available on legal downloads.
