Mary McCarty was a County Commissioner in Palm Beach County, Florida from November 1990 until her resignation - announced on January 8, 2009. Along with her husband, Kevin McCarty, she steered bond deals with the county government, the county's Housing Finance Authority, the city of Delray Beach, and the school board to her husband's former employer and underwriting firm Raymond James.[1] She was sentenced to three and a half years in prison on corruption charges and is currently serving time in the Federal Prison Camp in Bryan, Texas.[2]

In 1977 McCarty graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelors degree in journalism. Her career in politics started in 1974 as an intern to U.S. House Majority Leader Thomas "Tip" O'Neill. From 1987 - 1990, she was a City Commissioner and Vice-Mayor of Delray Beach.

In 2002, CEO Magazine named her as one of the 100 Most Powerful People in South Florida.

She has lived in Palm Beach County for almost 40 years and currently resides in Delray Beach with her husband, Kevin McCarty.
