Advanced Simulated Radar Client (ASRC) is a PC-based software application that simulates the radar systems and displays of real-world air traffic controllers when connected to the VATSIM network of massively-multiplayer air traffic and flight simulation.

Description

ASRC is designed to simulate actual air traffic control stations and centers to the maximum extent possible in the network for which it is designed. The program is actually a display and control client that interfaces with the VATSIM simulation network, similar to multiplayer flight simulations such as Microsoft Flight Simulator, except that ASRC simulates the work station of an air traffic controller, rather than the aircraft of a pilot. The application provides for voice communication with pilots and other controllers over VATSIM (using VoIP technology) in addition to its display of live network traffic data on a simulated radar display.

ASRC was released to the public in early 2003 following a series of beta tests. It superseded ProController, a similar but older ATC radar simulation. Since the ASRC release, ProController has officially been declared obsolete on VATSIM. The current version of ASRC is designed specifically for use with the VATSIM network and is not compatible with any other simulation network. ASRC is one of two simulated radar clients commonly used with VATSIM, the other being Virtual Radar Client (VRC).

Ports of the program to Linux, Macintosh or other operating systems or platforms have not been released and are not planned, although some users report limited success in running ASRC on other operating systems using Windows compatibility layers, such as Wine and Cedega.

ASRC is proprietary and closed-source software, but it is free.
