The St. Louis Stampede was a team in the
Arena Football League , a professionalsports league that plays a scaled-down version ofAmerican football , usually in arenas in which professionalbasketball or professionalice hockey are ordinarily played. The Stampede competed in the 1995 and 1996 seasons, playing their home games in the Kiel Center (since renamed theScottrade Center ), also the home of the St. Louis Blues of theNational Hockey League .The Stampede enjoyed considerable success on the field, qualfiying for the playoffs during both seasons of their existence, but apparently less success as a business, folding after the completion of the 1996 season.
