callsign_meaning = LYF = "Life"WLYF-FM is an
Adult Contemporary radio station that broadcasts inMiami Gardens, Florida . The station targets women aged 25-54. WLYF has solid ratings throughoutSouth Florida and is a popular listen at work radio station due to its format and laid back presentation.History
101.5 FM first signed on the air as WWPB-FM in 1948, as a B-EZ station. The station was owned and operated by Paul Brake for over twenty years.
In 1969, Sudbrink Broadcasting took over ownership of the station. The call letters were changed to WLYF (known by the moniker "Life" for many years until the current "Lite FM" name was adopted), and later that year, Sudbrink Broadcasting constructed a taller tower and increased their signal strength to 100,000 watts. The station was very successful and it became the nation's first FM radio station to achieve a number one audience rating.
In 1977, the station was sold to Storer Broadcasting, but only two years later in 1979, Jefferson-Pilot Communications (now the Lincoln Financial Group) purchased WLYF. Facilities were moved to Northwest Second Avenue in North Dade.
WLYF evolved from an
Easy Listening format to a mainstreamAdult Contemporary format and is now known as '101.5 Lite FM'.External links
