cheduled service

The airport is served by Kato Air which operates a route with Dornier 228 aircraft to Bodø (airport). The route is operated as a Public Service Obligation.

The airport has been served by a variety of airlines. Widerøe had the route for several years until the government awarded the route to Guard Air from 2000, but that company folded in 2001 [ [http://www.dn.no/arkiv/article10098.ece Guard Air lands for good] Dagens Næringsliv article, April 3, 2001 (in Norwegian)] and CHC Helikopter Service replaced temporarily it until Widerøe won the route back in 2001 [ [http://odin.dep.no/odinarkiv/norsk/stoltenbergI/sd/pressem/028031-070027/dok-bn.html Press release from the ministry of transportation] April 27 2001 (in Norwegian) ] . In April 2003 Kato Air took over the Bodø-Røst route. The new airline had a troubled start with the passenger numbers dropping by 27% since the takeover [ [http://www.nrk.no/nyheter/distrikt/nrk_nordland/2822451.html Passengers failing Kato Air] NRK article, June 10 2003, in Norwegian] and one flight from Røst to Bodø had to make an emergency landing on December 4 the same year after a lightning strike [ [http://aviation-safety.net/database/record.php?id=20031204-0 Aviation-safety.net entry on the emergency landing] ] , leading to accusations that the government had chosen the cheapest offer at expense of safety [ [http://www.vg.no/pub/vgart.hbs?artid=204517 Hard criticism from Røst] VG article, December 6, 2003, in Norwegian] .

Passenger complaints about the service have continued. In February 2006, there were a wave of cancelled flights [ [http://www.radio3.no/les/5283.html Demands that Kato Air be sanctioned] Radio 3 article, February 16, 2006 (in Norwegian)] , and in June it was reported that the pilots on the flight have had to sell tickets because Kato Air had declined to let Widerøe continue handling the fare collection citing increased costs [ [http://www.radio3.no/les/5767.html The pilots must sell tickets] Radio 3 article, June 15, 2006 (in Norwegian)] .
