John H. Striebel

John H. Striebel (1891 - 1962) was an American illustrator and comic strip artist who was best known for his work on the newspaper comic strip "Dixie Dugan", which ran from 1929 to 1966 and was syndicated by the [McNaught Syndicate] .

Striebel was born September 14, 1891, and began working at the age of 14 as a political cartoonist for the "South Bend Daily News", in his home town of South Bend, Indiana. After graduating from the University of Notre Dame, he moved to Chicago where he became an advertising illustrator for the "Chicago Tribune". His artwork also appeared in a comic strip, 'Pantomime' and in story illustrations magazines.

In October 1929, he began illustrating the syndicated newspaper comic strip "Dixie Dugan", created and written by J. P. McEvoy. Striebel continued to work on the strip until the early 1960s, when he became ill. Al Bare and Dave Huffine helped him with later illustrations. He died on May 22, 1962.
