Robert Krier (born 1938 in
Grevenmacher ) is aLuxembourg ianarchitect ,urban design er, theorist and former professor of architecture atVienna University of Technology ,Austria . Since 1993, he has been in partnershiip with architectChristoph Kohl in a joint office based inBerlin ,Germany .He is the older brother of fellow architect
Léon Krier .Career
Krier studied architecture at the
Technical University of Munich from 1959 to 1964. After graduating, he worked withOswald Mathias Ungers inCologne andBerlin (1965-70) andFrei Otto in Berlin andStuttgart . From 1973 to 1975, he was an assistant in the school of architecture at theUniversity of Stuttgart . In 1975, he was guest professor at theÉcole polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne , inSwitzerland . From 1976 to 1998, he was professor of architecture at Vienna University of Technology. In addition, in 1996, he was a guest professor atYale University , in theUnited States . From 1976 to 1994, Krier had his own architect's office in Vienna. From 1992 until 2004, he ran a joint office withNicolas Lebunetel inMontpellier ,France . In 1993, he also founded a joint office with Kohl in Berlin.
