Soul Action

Soul Action is a charity founded by the group behind the Christian gatherings known as Soul Survivor. It is designed to take the gospel message to 'the last, the least and the lost' via a series of outreach programmes. The charity's mission centres on making a positive, tangible difference on the lives of the poorest and most marginalised people in the world.

Vision

Soul Action states its vision as the following:
* To raise up Christians committed to God’s kingdom dream in their lives, localities and world
* Getting together and giving away the raw material and resources needed to change communities
* Connecting people all over the world to share prayer, money, people, ideas and resources in the hope of bringing God’s Kingdom dream to the last, the least and the lost.

History

Soul Survivor had been putting on their events since 1993, growing from just under 2,000 people attending the first conference to 22,789 by 2005. The missional aspect of the conferences grew with projects such as in 2000 and Soul In The City in 2004. The decision to found Soul Action was a natural response to the success of the works-based projects.

Soul Survivor trustee David Westlake said: 'Mission had been integral to the ministry but exploded into the public arena with Manchester 2000. For the first time the festivals were cancelled so that we could participate in a city mission.

'In the last few years God has been talking more and more to us about the poor. Our understanding has grown, our theology of mission become clearer and our commitment firm. This came to a head with Soul in the City, London 2004. It was during this mission that Mike Pilavachi and I felt challenged to develop the vision for Soul Action. Worship, mission and justice in the power of the Holy Spirit all belong together.

'In 2004 the challenge was to impact a city. We now want to impact the world.'

Projects

Soul Action splits its projects into two categories: local and global.

Local

Local projects are akin to Noise projects which are carries out by partners of the charity. These can include things as varied as redecorating a women's shelter to setting up a skatepark for bored youngsters. These are designed to help spread both the gospel message and the wider work of the charity.

Global

Global projects are the crux of the charity's mission and these initially will be centred around Durban in South Africa, beginning with an outreach event similar to Soul In The City in 2009. The charity's website gives a typical example of a project as a centre for orphaned children affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
