The National Hamburger Festival was held in Akron, Ohio August, 12-13, 2006 to celebrate the creation of the hamburger by Akron food innovators, Frank and Charles Menches, in 1885.The festival was the brainchild of Buffalo Wing Festival promoter, Drew Cerza and Akron-based competitive eater, Coondog O'Karma.The festival drew 20,000 people to taste hamburgers from all over the U.S. and featured a mock trial between four other U.S. families, Charles Nagreen, Louis Lassen and Fletcher Davis, who also claim to have created the iconic sandwich. The hearings were declared a mistrial.
