Thangachimadam

Thangachimadam is a village in the central part of Rameswaram which is a holy island in the state of Tamil Nadu in India. It is separated from the mainland by Pamban channel. Languages spoken include Tamil, Hindi, and English.

Economy

Thangachimadam's major exports are jasmine forms, jasmine flowers, and seafood.

Holy places

*Sri Balathandayuthapani swamy temple:There are 3 Lord Ganapathy Shrine and lord Murugan Shrine and lord Manikanda Shrine inside this temple. Mainly, this is the temple of lord Murugan and represents Lord Bala Thandayuthapani of Palani in Tamil Nadu.

Idol of BalaThandayuthupani is beautifully encarved and maintained properly by devotees of Thangachimadam. Daily rituals are always performed with much enthusiasm.

Premises of the temple has wonderful ambience containing cocconut trees and cleanly maintained pond.

Festival of sasti which comes after deepavali is auspicous in this temple.

*Villoondi Thirtham: This "thirtham" is located at Thangachimadam village, according to Hindu mythology when Lord Rama and Sita went in Pusphak Veemana. On their way from Sri Lanka, Sita felt thirsty. Because there was no way to drink water at that time Rama stuck an arrow in the sea. At once a spring came out from the sea like an artesian well which is very tasty for drinking. There are three springs in the sea, there is also a temple of Lord Rama named Ekantha Ramar Temple.

Thangachimadam has a hot tropical climate temperature ranging from 46°C (min) to 46°C (max) and the relative humidity is high at 79% on an average and it ranges between 80% to 90%.

Under the joint ISRO-MSSRF Village Resource Centre programme- ISRO has sanctioned satelliteconnectivity to Thiruvaiyaru in Tanjore, Sembatty in Dindigul district and Thangachimadam inRamnad district. These centers will facilitate teleconferences between farm and fishing families at these locations and MSSRF scientists as well as with leading experts in the area of health, education, agriculture, fisheries, marketing and disaster management.

MS Swaminathan Research Foundation site offices in Thangachimadam. VRC Thangachimadam providing key Technological Solutions for Development through integrated Satcom & EO Capabilities to offer services follows.

The coastal region of Thangachimadam will be provided with near real time charts, based on satellite derived potential fishing zones, for fishing and information on sea state, wave heights and other conditions related to behaviour of the sea.
