Sonic Reducer is a punk rock song written by Gene O'Connor and David Thomas during their tenure in Rocket from the Tombs, and made its debut on the Dead Boys 1977 album "Young, Loud and Snotty". The song is widely regarded as a punk classic and has been covered by bands as varied as Filtkick, Overkill, Pearl Jam, Foetus, Dozer and Saves the Day. The song was sampled on the Beastie Boys song "Open Letter To NYC" on their 2004 album "To The 5 Boroughs". The song is also featured on the skateboarding video game "Tony Hawk's Underground 2" and "Tony Hawk's American Wasteland". It was also performed by fictional punk rock outfit Hard Core Logo in Bruce McDonald's seminal 1997 mockumentary, "Hard Core Logo".

Appearances in pop culture

*Pearl Jam has released covers of the song twice on their Christmas 7"/45rpm single series: once in 1992 (studio recording), and again in 1995 (live in New Orleans with Joey Ramone). The song, with guest Tony Barber of the Buzzcocks playing bass, is also included on Pearl Jam's concert DVD "Pearl Jam Live at the Garden" recorded 8 July 2003 at New York's Madison Square Garden.
*The song was used in professional skateboarder Corey Duffel's part in the 88 Footwear video "Destroy Everything Now."
*Overkill Covered the track on their 1985 Studio Recording Feel the Fire.
*The band Saves the day covered the track for Tony Hawk's American Wasteland and Tony Hawk's American Wasteland (soundtrack)
*Used in the film about faux Canadian Punk Band Hard Core Logo in the 1996 film directed by Bruce McDonald, performed by Hugh Dillon and Swamp Baby
