Lourdes Garcia-Navarro

Lourdes Garcia-Navarro is a journalist who primarily reports on subjects relating to Iraq, Middle East, Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean for National Public Radio.

Education

Garcia-Navarro holds a B.S. in International Relations [ [http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4462099 NPR:Lourdes Garcia-Navarro] - retrieved 20/11/07] from Georgetown University and an M.A. in journalism from City University in London. She is fluent in Spanish and French.

Career

Garcia-Navarro became NPR's Baghdad Bureau Chief in February 2008.

Early career

Garcia-Navarro got her start in journalism as a freelancer with the BBC World Service and Voice of America, reporting from Cuba, Syria, Panama, and Europe. She later became a producer for Associated Press Television News (APTN) in Colombia before transitioning to AP Radio.

Associated Press Radio

While there, Garcia-Navarro covered post-September 11 events in Afghanistan and developments in Jerusalem. Until August 2004, she was based in Iraq. She then moved to Mexico City for NPR. She was awarded the 5th Annual Daniel Schorr Journalism Prize in 2006.
