Hoogland

Hoogland is a village located north of the city of Amersfoort in the province of Utrecht in the Netherlands. Since 1974, Hoogland has been a part of the municipality of Amersfoort. Hoogland is famous for its unique Carnival and annual village festival.

Hoogland was also the native place of Henricus van de Wetering, former Archbishop of Utrecht and Luc de Mooij.

Nowadays, around 15,000 people live in Hoogland.

Village festival

The village festival is named ( dorpsfeest ).It is held to celebrate the beginning of a new year, this is done with a lot of beer and dancing. Also, there are some horse drive shows.

Carnaval

Hoogland celebrates Carnaval every year. The Carnaval parade ( carnavalsoptocht ) is one of the biggest Carnaval parades in the Netherlands. Every year people from places around Hoogland come to the big parade.
