Somerville was once an area full of orchards but has recently been suburbanised.
Somerville Post Office opened on 21 November 1870 and closed in 1893. The three primary schools are Somerville Rise Primary School, Somerville Primary School (both government schools) and St Brendans Primary School (a private school). SRPS has a jade green and navy blue uniform, SPS has a blue and gold uniform and St Brendans has a light blue and maroon uniform. The junior high school is a campus of Mount Erin College (a government school), so has the same uniform as Frankston Campus: light blue, navy blue and white.
