- Bucegi Mountains
The Bucegi mountains are located in central
Romania , south of the cityBraşov . They are part of theSouthern Carpathians group of theCarpathian Mountains .To the east, the Bucegi mountains have a very steep slope towards the popular
tourist destinationPrahova Valley (a.o.Buşteni andSinaia ). At a higher elevation is the Bucegi Plateau, where wind and rain have turned the rocks into spectacular figures such as the "Sphinx" and "Babele ".They're grouped in three parts:
* Bucegi Mountains (Omul Peak - 2505 meters)
*Leaota Mountains (Leaota Peak - 2133 meters)
*Piatra Craiului Mountains (Baciului Peak - 2238 meters)The
Bran Pass separates the Piatra Craiului and Leaota ranges; it was marked byborder crossing s betweenWallachia andTransylvania , and was defended by theBran Castle .The Bucegi is believed to be the

The Romanian Parlament is currently (September 2008) discussing a bill aiming to open 13 National Parks to commercial hunting, in order to eliminate the wildlife from these areas. It is the first step toward the dismantling the National Parks in Romania and them transformation into human settled areas.
