Born in
Framingham, Massachusetts , Taglianetti was chosen 43rd overall by theWinnipeg Jets after his sophomore year atProvidence College in 1983. He played solidly during his junior and senior years and was named to the ECAC second all-star team in 1984 and the Hockey East first all-star team the next year.Professional career
Taglianetti spent most of his first two pro seasons developing in the AHL before taking a regular turn on the Jets' blueline in 1987–88. He played two more years in Winnipeg before he was traded to the
Minnesota North Stars inSeptember 1990 .Sixteen games into the season into the 1990–91 season, Taglianetti was acquired by the
Pittsburgh Penguins . He added a physical presence to the defense and played 19 games when the Pens won their firstStanley Cup that spring. The rear guard played 44 regular season games the next year when Pittsburgh repeated as Stanley Cup Champions.Taglianetti was chosen by the
Tampa Bay Lightning in the 1992 Expansion Draft. He was solid in the first 61 games of the season before he was re-acquired by Pittsburgh. He was a semi-regular for the club until the 1994–95 season. Taglianetti retired after playing 34 games for the AHL'sProvidence Bruins in 1995–96.Post-professional career
Taglianetti coached Washington & Jefferson College's men's hockey team from 2005–2006.
