Bohumil Kubišta

Bohumil Kubišta (1884-1918) was a Czech painter and art critic, one of the founders of the Czech modern painting. Together with Emil Filla he established the artistic group "Osma" in 1907.

Work

Kubišta came to his individual expression gradually, at first he was influenced by the work of Vincent van Gogh and Paul Cézanne. He educated himself in many directions, in philosophy, optics, he studied colours and geometrical construction of painting. His later style (approximately since 1911) was strongly influenced by cubism and expressionism. He died prematurely and his work thus remained unfinished.
