Erik Gnupsson or Eiríkr Gnúpsson, also known as Henricus (late 11th to early 12th centuries), was born in
Iceland . He became aclergyman and later was appointed the Bishop ofGreenland , residing at Garðar.In 1121 Erik reportedly made several trips to Northwest
Vinland to visit Christian people living there. However, it is not known exactly where this was. Although Vinland is the name theViking s gave toNorth America , there are disputes about how far inland they went.ee also
