Calvin Hughes

Emmy Award-winning newscaster Calvin Hughes, who serves as the weekday morning and noon news anchor on WPLG Local 10. Hughes came to Local 10 from KYW-TV, the CBS station in Philadelphia, where he anchored the weekend newscasts and served as a weekday night side reporter, covering several national stories, including the historic Live 8 Concert and Amish schoolhouse shootings.

He has also worked in Atlanta, Dallas, Lexington, Kentucky, and Evansville, Indiana, as an anchor and reporter. Hughes has interviewed a wide-ranging number of newsmakers, including President George W. Bush, Dr. Maya Angelou, the late Coretta Scott King and the late Yolanda King.

At 19, Hughes began reporting for the local radio station KBIA-FM in Columbia, Missouri, while still a student at the University of Missouri. Hughes holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He was born in Cleveland and also spent several years in East St. Louis, Ill.

In 2002, he was selected to run the relay leg of the Olympic torch as it passed through the streets of St. Louis, headed for the winter games in Salt Lake City, Utah. Active in the community, Hughes has been an emcee and motivational speaker for numerous civic and youth groups and churches. He is a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

Hughes now resides in Miramar, Florida, with his wife and sons. He enjoys running, basketball and reading.
