Anirvan Ghosh

Anirvan Ghosh is a neuroscientist and Stephen Kuffler professor at the University of California, San Diego. His research has contributed to our understanding of the molecular mechanisms that regulate development of the mammalian brain. A major focus of his research has been to identify genes that mediate the effects of sensory experience on brain development.

Anirvan Ghosh was born in Bloomington, Indiana but grew up in Kanpur, India. He received a B.S. in Physics from Caltech and a Ph.D. in Neurobiology from Stanford University. His postdoctoral training was with Michael E. Greenberg at Harvard Medical School. From 1995 to 2003 he was on the faculty at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, before joining UCSD as the Stephen Kuffler Professor.

Anirvan's nickname at Caltech was "Underdog".
