Adam Khatib

Adam Khatib (born 7 December 1986) is one of the suspects arrested in the UK in connection to the 2006 transatlantic aircraft terrorist plot in the United Kingdom, and one of the nineteen whose accounts were frozen by the Bank of England.[1] He has three siblings.[2] He attended Willowfield School, London.

Charges

On diverse days between 1 January 2006 and 10 August 2006 within the jurisdiction of the Central Criminal Court conspired with other persons to murder other persons (contrary to Section 1 (1) of the Criminal Law Act 1977).

On diverse days between 1 January 2006 and 10 August 2006 within the jurisdiction of the Central Criminal Court with the intention of committing acts of terrorism engaged in conduct to give effect to their intention to smuggle the component parts of improvised explosive devices onto aircraft and assemble and detonate them on board (contrary to Section 5 (1) of the Terrorism Act 2006).

Conviction

On Wednesday 10 December 2009, Khatib was found guilty of conspiracy to murder by a jury at Woolwich Crown Court. On the 11 December 2009 he was sentenced to life in prison. He had pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm for which he was sentenced to five years and nine months. Both sentences are to run consecutively and total seven years.[3]

  • 27 October 2006 Scheduled court appearance.
  • 18 May 2007 Defendant pleads not guilty to the charges. Trial due to begin April 2008.
  • 14 September 2009 Convicted of conspiring to murder civilians.[4]
  • 10 December 2009 Given a life sentence at Woolwich Crown Court for plotting with three other men to carry out terrorist attacks on transatlatic airliners.
