Fukuoka (福岡町; -chou) was a town located in Ena District, Gifu,
Japan . OnFebruary 13 ,2005 the town merged with five other towns and villages from the district into the expanded city ofNakatsugawa, Gifu and no longer exists as an independent municipality.History
The modern history of Fukuoka dates back to the
Meiji era . In1889 , three villages of Fukuoka, Takayama and Tase were incorporated with a new status under the Municipal Act of 1888. Fukuoka merged the village of Shimono in1897 and was raised to the rank of a town in1966 . The town had four school districts based on these old villages.Geography and demographics

2003 , the town had an estimatedpopulation of 7,148 and a density of 84.80 persons per km². The total area was 84.29 km².External links
