Volga River formed by a hydroelectricdam built in1939 in the town ofUglich . It is located in Tver andYaroslavl Oblast s ofRussia . The Uglich Reservoir has a surface area of 249 km² and a water volume of 1,2 cubic km. Its length is 143km , major width - 5 km, average depth - 5m (with maximum depth equaling 23 m). The Uglich Reservoir was created for the benefit of transportation, energetics, and water supply. It also performs seasonal flow regulation. The cities ofUglich ,Kalyazin , andKimry are located on the shores of the Uglich Reservoir.The construction of the dam led to a 15th-century monastery in Uglich and 16th-century monastery in Kalyazin being submerged by the artificial lake.
