- Ilie II Rareş
Ilie II Rareş (also referred to as Iliaş; 1531–1562) was Prince of
Moldavia between 1546 and 1551.He succeeded his father Petru IV Rareş on
September 3 ,1546 , after he converted toIslam , and took the name "Mehmet" in May 1546. In June 11, 1551, he was forced to abdicate by a high-ranking Ottoman official, thePasha ofSilistra , and was succeeded by his brotherŞtefan VI Rareş .Ilie died in exile in the Ottoman Empire, at
Aleppo (in present-daySyria ).
