Bassick High School is an American public high school located in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

Academics

"Bassick High School is plagued by the problems of poor academic achievement as measured on State and National examinations, student poverty, absenteeism, and dropouts," according to a U.S. Department of Education Web page based on information from an application filed by the city school district for a federal grant. "In addition, many students at Bassick High School require additional educational services such as Special Education and English as a Second Language. Finally, many students arrive at the school lacking grade-level skills in reading and mathematics, making learning difficult for them in all curricular areas." As of 2006, the school administration planned to continue developing "Achievement and Career Academies" within the school. "These Academies will create small communities of learners that will personalize the educational experience for each student and provide needed support for increased levels of academic achievement," according to the Federal Department of Education Web site. "Through an Advisory Program, Bassick will ensure that each student is known well by at least one adult member of the school community." The program was also to integrate reading and mathematics instruction.

In the federal 2006 fiscal year, The U.S. Department of Education awarded the school $476,753 for a five-year "Smaller Learning Communities" grant.

Athletics

The school is a member of the FCIAC conference. As of 2007, Bassick's football team has not won a game in six years and thus holds the modern record for games without a win, first set by Bullard-Havens in 2001. Officially, Bassick has lost 60 straight games and has gone 61 games without a victory. The school has made global headlines in newspapers published as far away as Germany and New Zealand for being the first Connecticut team to get beaten by 50 points under the CIAC's score management policy.Fact|date=February 2008

Despite the football team's lackluster performance, the school has an excellent basketball team. Bassick's boys' basketball team year started with the loss of junior TaVon Duharte. There was a ceremony during the first game of the season in which the team retired his jersey. Although they lost their first game, the basketball team went on to the playoffs with a record of 23-3, but lost to Weaver High in the third playoff game.
