The FCIAC arguably has the best lacrosse in the state of Connecticut. Teams such as Greenwich, Darien, Ridgefield and Wilton are well known for having some of the nation's top lacrosse teams.
Legendary coaches Guy Whitten (Wilton) and
Howard Benedict (New Canaan) are believed to be the "Founding Fathers of Connecticut Lacrosse."The New Canaan High School boys' lacrosse team used to be one of the top teams in the nation, but after an incredibly controversial firing by the school administration of legendary coach
Howard Benedict , the team had its worst season in recent memories losing to Ridgefield for the first time ever and losing in the FCIAC Quarter-Finals also for the first time ever. Benedict won more lacrosse games in the state of Connecticut than any other coach. He won a total of 18 County and State Championships. He was most recently named the 2008 US Lacrosse Man of the Year.See also
