Agualeguas, Nuevo León

Agualeguas is both a city and a municipality located to the north east of Nuevo León, Mexico (coord|26|19|N|99|32|W|). Its name honours the first inhabitants of the region, the Gualeguas tribe. It was erected as a village on January 7, 1821 by Bro. Diego Velázquez.

The municipality has an area of 917.6 km² and is located 180 meters above the sea level. According to the 2000 census, there are 4,492 inhabitants.

Raúl Salinas Lozano, former Secretary of Agriculture, Mexican Ambassador to the USSR and father of former president Carlos Salinas was born in Agualeguas.
