St. Joseph's College, Hunters Hill before being graded by the Roosters in 1916.He played 110 matches for the club in the years (1916-23 & 1929). A five-eighth, Caples captained Easts to the club's fourth premiership in 1923, scoring two tries in that match.
Caples was selected for the 1921-22
Kangaroo tour . He played for Australia in two Tests on tour and 22 minor tour matches. During his career he represented for three different states New South Wales , Queensland and Victoria.Sources
