Vuyyuru

Vuyyuru is a town and Mandal headquarters in Krishna district, Andhra Pradesh, India. It is located on the N.H 9 highway between Vijayawada and Machilipatnam about 25 km from Vijayawada and 39 km from Machilipatnam.

Agriculture

Vuyyuru's economy is based on agriculture, particularly sugar cane. The land is fertile, and irrigation canals which draw water from the Krishna river criss-cross the area. Drinking water is not scarce. A small dam and bridge was constructed during the British period on the main canal in the town. This bridge served the locals for more than a century, although there is a new bridge now.

Industries

Prior to the construction of the KCP sugar factory in 1941, irrigation facilities were limited. KCP has a processing capacity 8500 TCD, and is one of the largest sugar factories in the country and also one among the most modern. KCP has a cogeneration plant which produces 15 MW of power per day.

KCP and its group of industries were founded by Velagapudi Rama Krishna. KIC, a subsidiary of KCP, produces CO₂ (Soda gas). Farmers, who grow sugar-cane, bring the harvest to this factory during the season. The season usually starts in the month of October and ends in April. KCP Sugar factory was the first to start production of ethanol in south India

Vuyyuru hosts many famous educational institutions.Siddartha A.G & S.G College of Arts and Science is a college which offers intermediate and Degree courses. Its a government college affiliated to Nagarjuna University.Sri Srinivasa College is a private college which offers intermediate and Degree courses.There are several famous private schools like flora Public school , Sri ViswaSanthi English Medium School, Vuyyuru Public School, Gemini Public school , Shantiniketan Public School. These schools offer Day and Residential studies from Nursery to 10th standardFlora public school in collaboration with state-wide famous educational institution "Narayana Colleges". Health

The Government general hospital is located in Katuru Road. There are two charity-funded hospitals, the CBM (Canadian Baptist Mission) hospital, which was established during British rule which provides eye related treatment (like cataract) and general treatment for a nominal amount, and the Rotary eye hospital, funded by KCP sugar factory and local residents. It is located 2 kilometers away from Vuyyuru. They provide treatment at nominal rates.

An old Mosque nearly 300 years old located on Machilipatnam - Pune N.H.9 in the heart of the town. Recently the mosque was renovated.

A famous village deity fondly called "Veeramma" temple is located in Vuyyuru. The village fair is celebrated during February every year. Its duration is 15 days.A Shiva Temple constructed by Kakatiya's during 13th Century is located in the heart of vuyyuruA Venkateswara Swamy Temple is located in Mantada. Its too a very famous temple in its vicinityCBM (Canadian Baptist Mission) church was constructed prior to independence.

Fully computerised branches of Andhra Bank (with ATM) , State bank of india (with ATM), Indian Bank (with ATM), Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) are situated in Vuyyuru. There Are several private financial institutions like Shri Ram chits and co-operative bank

There are 7 movie theatres in Vuyyuru. There are 4 lodges with hotel facility. There are 6 function halls in Vuyyuru. Out of which four are constructed and maintained by KCP sugar factory. Sudheer timber depot well known for its quality timber is located in Yakamuru a neighbouring village of vuyyuru. With the advent of IT and booming markets, the price of lands has risen astronomically in Vuyyuru and its surrounding areas. A large section of people from this region are settled in hyderabad, Bangalore , Chennai and US working in IT sector.

A bypass road was constructed in 1987 to divert traffic from Vuyyuru roads. This bypass connects Machilipatnam with the Hyderabad national highway 9. All heavy vehicles travel over this road to to ease traffic through town. Land alongside this road are sold at very high prices. This bypass road was neglected by the government until 2001. After 2001, AP state government built a some government offices along this road like police station, village panchayat offices, Mandal register office, RTA office.

Connectivity

Vuyyuru can be reached by road. It is located on National Highway no.9 which connects Machilipatnam and Hyderabad. There is no train or air service to Vuyyuru directly. The nearest railway station is Vijayawada railway station, which is 30 km away. The nearest airport is Gannavaram Airport, which is 30 km away.

The state government owned bus service APS RTC established a bus stand and bus depot in 1987. The then chief minister of the state Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao laid the foundation stone for the project. The bus depot closed in 2007, as the route was losing money.
