The 5th Congressional District of Illinois includes part of Cook County, and has been represented by Democrat Rahm Emanuel since January 2003.

The district spans much of the North Side of City of Chicago from Lake Michigan into the western suburbs. Wrigley Field is located in this district.

George W. Bush received 33% of the vote in this district in 2004. The district has a Cook Partisan Voting Index score of D +18.
