Akçakoca is a town and a district of
Düzce Province in the Black Sea region ofTurkey . It is located on the shore of theBlack Sea about 200 km east ofIstanbul , Turkey. The town was named after a Turkish chieftain of the 14th century CE who added the area to the Ottoman domain. There is a statue ofAkçakoca Bey in the centre of the town and a modern mosque of very unusual architecture. Its touristic attractions are beaches and a small ruined castle.
