James Addison Baker (born March 3 1821, died February 24 1897) was a prominent lawyer in Huntsville, Texas, as well as a Texas state legislator and judge. He was removed from his judgeship during Reconstruction by a Republican governor and subsequently joined the law firm of Gray and Botts, renamed Gray, Botts, and Baker during his partnership there. The firm is now known as Baker Botts. Capt. James Addison Baker (born January 10 1857, died August 2 1941) was a prominent Texas lawyer and businessman best known for his work in saving Rice University in a series of lawsuits and a murder.
