Dundas Granite Curling Club

The Dundas Granite Curling Club was founded in 1963 as the second curling club in Dundas, Ontario. It is currently one of the member clubs of the Ontario Curling Association, participating in Zone 13.

In 1962 , 20 local men decided to build a second curling club in Dundas, Ontario. They invested $2,000 each and bought two lots on Head St. with an option to purchase another two. With the help of a $50,000 mortgage from Canada Permanent, construction started. The four sheet Dundas Granite Curling Club (DGCC) was founded in 1963. The first game played on December 4, 1963. In 1965, the club decided to sell shares to the members in order to raise extra funds. In the early years, men curled five nights a week, women curled in the afternoons , Saturdays were reserved for one-day bonspiels (curling tournaments), and Sundays were well-known for informal jitneys (teams were made up depending on who showed up) followed by pot-luck dinners.

DGCC is a member club of the Ontario Curling Association (OCA). This association divides the province into sixteen zones which are then organized into four regions. Theis association oversees all curling activities in Ontario. The OCA runs a variety of competitions each year for men, women, and youth. Some competitions lead to provincial championships while others lead to national and, in some cases, international championships. The association also provides training clinics for coaches, ice-technicians, officials, and players. DGCC is in Zone 13 , along with 11 other clubs. These include: Burlington CC, Burlington Golf and CC, Dundas Valley CC, Glanford CC, Glendale Golf and CC, Hamilton Victoria CC, Niagara Falls CC, St. Catharine's CC, St. Catharine's Golf and CC, and Welland CC.
